WOMEN’S EMPOWERMENT THROUGH CAREGIVER TRAINING CARE ECONOMY - USE UN WORDS Women’s Empowerment & Livelihoods
Overview
We partnered with the Centre for Caregiver Training and Development (CCTD) in Hyderabad to launch the POWER Centre (Promoting Opportunities for Women’s Empowerment & Resilience)—a long-term initiative aimed at equipping women with professional caregiving and healthcare support skills.

India faces a rapidly growing demand for qualified caregivers due to an ageing population, expanding healthcare systems, and chronic shortages of trained support staff.

At the same time, women from rural and peri-urban communities continue to face barriers to dignified livelihood opportunities.

This project bridges both needs by providing structured training, certification, employment pathways, and financial independence to women who often lack such opportunities. Through the POWER Centre, we aim to strengthen both women’s economic resilience and community healthcare capacity.
Key Interventions
  • A structured curriculum designed to produce skilled, job-ready caregivers.
  • Includes intensive classroom training by qualified medical and caregiving professionals.
    Training includes:
    • Basic nursing and patient care
    • Elderly and disability support
    • Home-based care and hygiene
    • Emergency response and first aid
    • Communication and soft skills
  • Free hostel accommodation provided for outstation trainees.
  • Nutritious meals offered throughout the training period.
  • Learning spaces designed specifically for women, ensuring comfort, accessibility, and dignity.
  • A three-month paid internship at hospitals, clinics, rehabilitation centres, or home-care agencies.
  • Internships provide practical patient handling, supervision, and hands-on medical support skills.
  • Many trainees receive employment offers directly from internship partners.
  • Graduates are supported to secure jobs as:

Community Involvement

Empowering Women

  • Creates dignified employment opportunities for women who often lack access to professional training.
  • Supports economic independence for participants and their families.
  • Builds confidence, self-reliance, and long-term career resilience.

Strengthening Healthcare Services

  • Trained caregivers significantly improve patient outcomes in hospitals and home-care settings.
  • Addresses critical shortages of support workers across Hyderabad.
  • Helps build a compassionate, professional caregiving workforce.

Breaking Intergenerational Barriers

  • Many participants come from socio-economically constrained backgrounds.
  • Through skill development and income generation, the programme helps break the cycle of limited opportunities.

Community Involvement

The Dawoodi Bohra community in Hyderabad plays an active role through:
  • Volunteer support during training sessions.
  • Organising awareness campaigns about caregiving as a dignified and essential profession.
  • Providing nutritional support and resource mobilisation for trainees.
  • Celebrating milestones, graduations, and recognising accomplishments of women who complete the programme.
Why This Project Matters
  • India’s care economy is rapidly expanding—but the number of trained caregivers is still far below national needs.
  • Women, especially from rural and underserved communities, have limited access to stable professions.
  • The POWER Centre addresses both challenges by providing employment-linked training that strengthens healthcare systems while uplifting women.
By partnering with CCTD, we are investing in women’s empowerment, human dignity, and resilient communities, ensuring that women step into meaningful roles that support both their households and India’s broader healthcare ecosystem.
