Women’s Empowerment

Global challenges persist—from disparities in health and education to the unequal burden of unpaid care work and the critical underrepresentation of women in leadership.

Recognising these systemic barriers, we planned to implement  holistic, inclusive, and diverse interventions that uplift women, transforming them from beneficiaries into agents of change.
What We Do
Project Rise prioritises maternal and child health through targeted, community-centric interventions. These projects directly address critical issues like malnutrition and anaemia, which disproportionately affect women and girls.
  • Targeted Nutritional Support: In collaboration with organisations like the Association for Nutrition and Development Action (ANNADA) and local government bodies like the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Commissionerate and Zilla Parishads (e.g., in Nandurbar and Chandrapur, Maharashtra), Project Rise implements programs to provide micronutrient-fortified and energy-dense food (like fortified ladoos and khichdi mixes) to undernourished children and pregnant and lactating mothers.
  • Health and Awareness Camps: Across various regions, volunteers organise medical outreach and diagnostic camps that promote maternal and child health and raise awareness about essential practices such as breastfeeding, immunisation, and good hygiene (WASH programs). These efforts ensure that women have universal access to vital health information and services.
Education is the bedrock of socio-economic empowerment. Project Rise invests in closing the gender gap in education by ensuring equal access to quality education for girls and promoting digital literacy.
  • Girls' Child Education: Initiatives include providing essential infrastructure support to educational institutions in rural areas and offering sponsorship and digital literacy tools, such as donating laptops and computers to students.
  • Inclusive Education and Special Needs: We are committed to fostering an inclusive society. This includes providing assistance and support for individuals with special needs. Efforts focus on ensuring that specially-abled women and girls have access to necessary educational resources, including providing laptops and computer access to women with special needs to promote their digital inclusion and skill development. The community also strives to ensure accessibility in public gatherings and spaces, providing resources like sign language interpreters, calming rooms, and special educators to integrate persons with disabilities fully, as demonstrated during the Ashara Mubaraka congregation in Chennai.
We integrate women's empowerment across all its focus areas, including the environment—an area where women often bear the brunt of climate change impacts but are also key to climate action.
  • Environmental Leadership and Climate Action: Our volunteers, particularly women, are taking the lead in environmental conservation, demonstrating practical solutions for a sustainable future.
    • Composting Drives: Women like Maria Chinwalla in Philadelphia, USA, have spearheaded community-wide initiatives under Project Rise, partnering with local woman-owned organisations (like ROT STAR Compost), to manage waste through composting, diverting significant amounts of food waste from landfills and promoting a circular economy. They actively train and involve others, including children, in these efforts.
    • Clean-up Campaigns: Dawoodi Bohra women globally have actively participated in beach and river clean-up drives, such as along the Mithi River and Dana Pani Beach in Mumbai, demonstrating their commitment to preserving the natural environment and combating plastic pollution under campaigns like 'Turning the tide.'
  • Food and Water Security: Project Rise's work in eliminating hunger and malnutrition, as well as its efforts in water security (installing hand pumps, rainwater harvesting) and farmer upliftment, inherently benefits women, who are often responsible for securing food and water for their families.
